Large Cheese Testing Iron

A large, stainless steel cheese testing iron used to take samples from cheeses at different stages of maturity, to determine when the cheese might be ready to eat. This cheese iron also has a life time guarantee. Suitable for 2+kg cheeses. 12.5 cm in length

Using a cheese testing iron allows you to evaluate the cheese making process, including flavour, acid, moisture and texture earlier in the aging cycle, making adjustments needed for subsequent batches of cheese. The time you save sampling the cheese earlier makes a testing iron a sound, worthwhile investment.

Getting your cheese iron engraved is a lovely idea helping its safe return if you should become separated. At home or away judging cheeses.

To try your cheese, plough the iron into the cheese and twist. Exactly the same principle as an apple corer. Pull the iron out with a bore of cheese which displays a perfect cross section of the cheese from the inside out. Get a feel of the cheese between thumb and index finger. Smell the cheese and finally taste a small sample.

Once you have finished analysing the cheese, replace the bore by reinserting the iron into the cheese. The point of entry can be made  virtually invisible, by gently smearing a small piece of the cheese over the borehole. Therefore ensuring its airtight once again,

I bought this cheese iron for my dad Christmas 2012. He is slowly collecting all the equipment for his new found hobby, managing to make his own press out of wood. Worked out well after he got the pressure right. Tried making his own moulds out of drain pipe but it doesn’t work. A selection of moulds are on his ‘what I want for Christmas’ list for this year. PS. took your advice and had the cheese iron engraved. SD
