Description

These Muslin Straining Bags are beautifully made with fine, bleached white cheesecloth. A good idea to have at least three. One in use. One in the wash. A spare in the draw.

Not just for lining cheese moulds and straining curds, but perfect for wrapping Christmas puddings the old fashioned way, home preserves and pickles. Washable, durable, sustainable.

Please email if you require a larger size. A minimum order for custom made sizes would apply of 50 pieces.

Traditionally, cheesecloth has been used in cheesemaking to separate the curds and whey, helping to form the cheese. Cheesecloth and muslin straining bags are great for straining stocks, homemade jelly, smoothies, custards, making tofu and cottage cheese. Paneer, an Indian fresh cheese, is commonly made using  cheesecloth.

Christmas fruitcake, wrapped in a brandy infused cheesecloth as it ripens, is probable the best use for cheesecloth. After cheesemaking of course!

Super for home fruit preserves and pickle makers. Machine washable and durable. Remember to rinse well after washing to remove all residues of washing detergent. Sterilise just before use by immersing in boiling water for a few seconds.  May find slight staining occurs after some food stuffs, but apart from not looking very attractive, is totally harmless.

I haven’t yet used one but it can also be used for making Greek style yoghurt. Just make yoghurt in the normal way using full cream UHT milk. Then strain away the whey using a muslin bag to get the extra creamy Greek yoghurt flavour!

I would like to use this product to make Greek yoghurt. Ideal to strain away the whey. Never made yoghurt before but it’s something I definitely want to try

I make all my own food from bread to preserves and jam. I have access to lovely full cream organic milk and also make my own yoghurt but its now time to venture into making cheese and butter. I think this bag will be useful for jam and cheese making activities. I have brought goods from Moorlands before and have found them helpful and reliable.
