Description

Our Mozzarella cheese kit contains everything you need to make homemade Mozzarella. Mozzarella is not the easiest cheese to make and requires a little practice to perfect stretching the curds. If your first couple of attempts are disappointing, do not get disheartened as you will be rewarded. Furthermore, another great thing about all our kits is you know exactly what’s gone into your cheese and can control the amount of salt added.

Mozzarella is a very popular cheese, probably one of the most popular after Cheddar. Enjoyed on top of a pizza or in the summer, with a few fresh salad leaves from the garden. Have to say, cherry tomatoes, mozzarella with torn basil is my favourite; and so easy.

The vegetarian rennet included in the kit may also be used in conjunction with other cultures, available from Moorlands.

Your delicious home made Mozzarella can be eaten immediately or within 3-4 days when stored in the fridge.

I received this kit as a birthday present and it contained everything I needed, apart from some basic kitchen utensils. The thermometer is good as it clips on the side of the saucepan. The rennet is easy to measure as it is in a dropper bottle.

My mozzarella will need more practice, but I was encouraged that it came out well enough to be used in a pasta bake (where it did have some of the stringy cheese quality that I was hoping for). The recipe that comes with the kit requires nearly 4 litres of milk, which is too much for my saucepan, and I think also makes too much for a beginner to practise on (a bit pricey if it doesn’t work out). I halved the recipe, hoping that this wouldn’t make any difference to the final outcome, but some tips on changing quantities would be useful in the recipe.

I will definitely be trying out more cheese recipes in future.
